MADISON—Riding on the strength of several programs that help working parents achieve their professional goals, UW Hospital and Clinics has been chosen as the only organization in Wisconsin to earn a prestigious award for initiatives that benefit hourly workers.

This is the third consecutive year Working Mother magazine has granted this recognition to the hospital, which was only one of 12 companies in the U.S. to reach this pinnacle. The publication applauded UW Hospital and Clinics for developing programs that succeed in training and promoting working parents and encourage a dynamic work life culture. The hospital was given high marks for its programs and policies concerning:
· Paid time off and leaves
· Access to flexible work arrangements
· Family-friendly benefits
· Job-skills and career-advancement training

“Hourly workers make up nearly three-quarters of our workforce, and their contributions to the hospital are extremely valuable,” said Janice Bultema, senior vice president, human resources. “Receiving this award from Working Mother for the third year in a row emphasizes how much we value employees, how our programs have been instrumental in retaining talented employees, and how these initiatives have been responsible for the top-notch patient and family-centered care we provide.”

UW Hospital and Clinics has also been selected by Working Mother as one of the best companies for working mothers annually since 2007. In 2011, the hospital was recognized as one of the nation’s top ten companies for employees’ children.

Working Mother magazine, which has a circulation of two million, is the only publication geared toward mothers who work.
