USDA Rural Development: Government funds available for housing in rural communities

Shawano, WI – – – – – The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development still has loans available to rural communities in Wisconsin with affordable monthly payments.

Direct Single Family Housing loans are also available with no down payment for lower income households. These are for a period of 33-38 years. The current interest rate is 3.125 percent, and in some cases may be subsidized down to one percent.

USDA Rural Development also offers Home Repair Loans and Grants. Funds can be used to repair or replace furnaces, electrical, foundations, siding, roofing, windows, plumbing, wells, septic systems, and other health and safety hazards as well as improving and modernizing a home. These loans are at one percent interest for a maximum term of 20 years. The loan amount depends on the ability to make a monthly payment based on required income guidelines.
