College will lead consortium that received nearly $15 million for Making the Future: The Wisconsin Strategy Program

CHICAGO – On Wednesday, Oct. 10, Deputy Secretary of Labor Seth D. Harris will visit Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay to tour the college’s welding, metallurgy, and robotics labs, and observe students and faculty in action. This visit will coincide with the collegeâ019s National Manufacturing Day activities. Remarks and a press availability will follow the tour.

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is leading a statewide consortium of schools that has received nearly $15 million in grants through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College to Career Training initiative. The funding will be used by the 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System to bring together higher education, nationally-recognized leaders in education, state-wide educational systems, industry groups, workforce development boards, and more than 50 businesses in order to develop, improve, and expand adult educational training pathways to careers in advanced manufacturing.

A total of 54 grants covering nearly 300 schools across the country was announced Sept. 19. The grants will foster partnerships between community colleges and local employers to promote skills development and employment opportunities in fields such as advanced manufacturing, transportation and health care, as well as science, technology, engineering and math occupations.
