Small Business Seminar Delivered Results

A mixture of financial service organizations, public relations & marketing firms and growing small businesses were in attendance at the Breaking the Lending Barrier seminar sponsored by SARA Investment Real Estate at the Madison Club on May 2. The 90-minute seminar featured presentations by Dan Paulson of InVision, Stan Kitson of Kitson Marketing and Michael Mihelbergel of MJM Financial Consulting, LLC using small business case studies to explain the how and the why of business development, financing and marketing. “This was one of the most informative business development seminars that I have attended, the Q&A segments really got to the black magic of bank lending,” said seminar participant Fred Sharkey, Sharkey Accounting Solutions, Inc.

The seminar began with a networking session, so participates and presenters could find out the various strengths and business experience levels. During the three presentation segments a focus was put on answering real questions and problems. “We were able to showcase several factors that have direct impacts on how business operation are perceived and what defines a concise business plan,” said longtime business development expert and presenter Dan Paulson.

The seminar pointed out two missing components in most business plans-a lack of marketing strategy and knowing how to market the business to banks. ” Too often business don’t have a method of accurately forecasting their sales, so the lender doesn’t know how accurate those numbers really are,”said presenter Stan Kitson of Kitson Marketing, a marketing expert with over 30 years of experience. The lending component segment produced the most questions from participates at Breaking the Lending Barrier seminar because of its unknown qualities. “Banks want and need to lend. In a difficult financing environment, it is up to the borrower to present a compelling case for the financing request,” said presenter Michael Mihelbergel of MJM Financial Consulting, LLC.

Based on the success of this event, future upcoming events will be schedule at a variety of across the metro area in the near future.
