St. Norbert College: Sport and society class offered through Masters program at St. Norbert

DE PERE, WIS. The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MLS) program at St. Norbert College has a course for those interested in sports beyond the games themselves. Sport and Society will be offered beginning April 4, running every Wednesday evening through May 30. A required component of the course is attendance at the “A Mirror of Our Culture: Sport and Society in America,” a May conference jointly presented by St. Norbert College and the Green Bay Packers.

The Sport and Society course is open to anyone interested in getting master’s-level credits. It will explore the many ways in which sports influence our society and culture, with examination of youth sports, fandom, sports and gender, sports and race, sports and the arts, and other topics.

Attendance at the conference, the cost of which is included in the course tuition, will allow participants the opportunity to hear from academics and business people involved with sports. Among those presenting at the conference will be Bud Selig, commissioner of Major League Baseball, and George Bodenheimer, executive chairman of ESPN, Inc.

For more information about the Sport and Society course, including costs, or about the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program generally, contact Dinah Grassel, program coordinator, at 920-403-3957 or dinah.grassel@snc.edu.
