August 20, 2012 – Madison, Wis. – The world’s largest community of social media professionals just got bigger. Social Media Club of Madison recently became an official chapter of Social Media Club, a large national network of social media chapters and professionals working to share best practices and expand digital media literacy in communities across the country.

SMC Madison, which started in 2011, focuses on providing social media education and networking opportunities to members of the Madison community.

“With nearly 90 percent of businesses experimenting with social media, there’s a strong demand for education and professional development in this space,” said Marivic Valencia, Chapter president. “We’re excited to create new opportunities for professionals to network, build relationships and get inspired to move their organizations – and Madison – forward.”

The new chapter elected its first executive board in July, bringing a diverse set of valuable skills to SMC Madison’s first official year. The board includes:

President – Marivic Valencia (@techpr)

Vice President – Jessica Underwood (@junderwood)

Secretary – Maureen Alley (@MaureenAlley)

Membership – Tracey Ziegler (@tzeigler)

Communications – Kira Sparks(@kksparks)

Program – Carleen Wild (@carleenwild)

Sponsorship – Trish Baden (@trishbaden)

New Technology – Bryan Bliss (@blisfulfun)

Past President – Wendy Soucie (@wendysoucie)

The board brings experience in public relations, communications, business and technology to support local professionals and elevate Madison’s expertise in social media.

A Social Media Club membership affords access to free educational content and special live webinar events. For community members interested in becoming Social Media Club Members, please email madisonsmc@gmail.com for more information.
