Renting peace of mind
Weekend car rentals save consumers money
With Memorial Day, the summer driving season officially kicking off this weekend, many Madisonians are finding a way to save money on their drives—rentals.
It might seem odd to rent a vehicle, especially if someone already owns a car, but for many people this makes sense for long car travels. Just the increased gas mileage alone could be reason to rent a car, but the increased peace of mind that comes from the dependability of a new model car is also very important.
“These aren’t people flying in from out of town who need a car for the weekend, these are people who need a different car so they can have a better weekend trip,” says Peter Graper, Guest Service Manager of Smart Motors.
Even a seemingly quick jaunt over to Chicago or Green Bay can put much wear and tear on a vehicle, depressing its value. Rentals will not depreciate on the renter. Weekend rentals cost as low as $60, which is more than made up for by the cost savings.
For example, the math becomes even more logical when considering taking the 5 year old, 12 MPG Suburban for the big family trip. Loading everyone into a new 21 MPG minivan nearly halves the amount of gas consumed. Families can actually save money by not driving their own vehicle.
“Vacations should be a time for fun, not time spent worrying about the cost of gas or repairs. A weekend rental gives piece of mind that lets vacationers enjoy that vacation,” says Graper.
