Second Harvest Foodbank: Receives grant to sustain Beloit mobile pantry program

MADISON, Wis., March 26, 2012 – Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin announced today it has received a $3,200 grant from the Stateline Community Foundation’s Community Needs Grant Program to help sustain its Mobile Pantry Program in Beloit.

“Second Harvest Foodbank is grateful for the Stateline Community Foundation’s support of the Mobile Pantry Program in Beloit,” says Dan Stein, President/CEO for Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. “Mobile Pantries provide a vital resource to individuals and families in Beloit who need help stretching their food budgets.”

Second Harvest Foodbank operates two Mobile Pantries in Beloit, in partnership with the Salvation Army of Beloit and the Masonic Center. Each month, these mobile pantries serve an average of 380 families 24,000 pounds of food. From July 1, 2010–June 30, 2011, the Beloit Mobile Pantries distributed 353,835 pounds of food to 17,566 individuals—35 percent were children and 19 percent were seniors.

Overall, Second Harvest Foodbank’s Mobile Pantry Program operates 30 sites each month. The program distributed nearly 2.8 million pounds of food from July 1, 2010–June 30, 2011.
