MADISON – In response to news that Dominion plans to shut down and decommission the Kewaunee Power Station in Carlton, Public Service Commission of Wisconsin Chairperson Phil Montgomery issued the following statement.

“I am optimistic about Wisconsin’s energy future. Wisconsin utilities have made prudent investments in a diversified energy portfolio including coal, nuclear, natural gas, hydroelectric power, biomass, wind, and solar. We have the capacity to meet electric reliability expectations today, and will continue to meet these obligations down the road.

“I want to personally thank the workers at the Kewaunee Power Station. They are highly-skilled, professional, and dedicated men and women who have helped secure Wisconsin’s reliable energy supply for many years.”

Dominion is an independent-power producer that is not regulated by the PSC. Two Wisconsin utilities, Wisconsin Power & Light and Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, currently purchase power produced at the Kewaunee Power Station.
