Milwaukee – The Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council Inc., the area’s leading home improvement and remodeling resource, will celebrate 50 years of service to the community by joining forces with Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee (RTGM) to make 50 homes safer and more accessible.
Recipients of services include the elderly, disabled, military veterans and families in need in Milwaukee County. The accessibility modifications will be made free of charge in spring.
Examples of modifications/repairs:
* Nightlights/wireless switching
* Stair hand railings
* Energy star light bulbs
* Hand shower
* Non-skid tapes for stairs
* Transfer benches/shower chairs
* Grab bars
* Smoke /carbon monoxide detectors
* Removable non-skid mats for bathtubs and showers
“On this 50th Anniversary of Milwaukee/NARI we realize the need has never been greater,” said Dave Amoroso, president of the Milwaukee/NARI chapter. “America’s low-income homeowners are faced with daunting challenges attempting to manage food and health care along with basic home maintenance, while struggling to retain homeownership in neighborhoods. Rebuilding Together makes it possible for homeowners to remain in safe and healthy homes, plus keep their independence and dignity. Milwaukee/NARI and its members are thrilled to give back in such a meaningful way to our community.”

Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee (RTGM) is part of the national Rebuilding Together organization, the nation’s leading non-profit working to preserve affordable home ownership and revitalize neighborhoods by bringing volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners.
Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee’s mission is to preserve and revitalize homes and communities, assuring that very low-income elderly homeowners and disabled homeowners, as well as families with children, live in warmth, safety and independence. The organization provides free repairs to homeowners in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Since 2000, RTGM has rehabilitated more than 445 homes and non-profits by investing more than $6 million into Milwaukee-area housing. The Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council was chartered in July 1961 as a chapter of the National Home Improvement Council. In May 1982, the National Home Improvement Council merged with the National Remodelers Association to form NARI – the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
The Council’s goals of encouraging ethical conduct, professionalism, and sound business practices in the remodeling industry have led to the remodeling industry’s growth and made NARI a recognized authority in that industry. With more than 900 members, the Milwaukee Chapter is the nation’s largest.
