Negotiations Continuing on Couture Project

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele is happy to announce that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has confirmed their prior ruling that the Downtown Transit Center is not on lakebed and therefore is not subject to the Public Trust Doctrine.

“The Public Trust Doctrine is important to me, that’s why we asked for the DNR to look at the issue last year and we supported them taking another look this summer,” Abele said. “Now that the issue has been thoroughly researched, we can continue to move forward with the exciting Couture project which will change the skyline of Milwaukee and create 4,400 jobs and millions of dollars in tax base.”

Abele and his Economic Development Division are continuing to negotiate with Barrett Visionary over the project.

Once negotiations are finalized the plan goes to the County Board for approval.
