Madison, WI – The Madison International Trade Association (MITA) is hosting an event on January 17 entitled “The European Debt Crisis: Impact on U.S. Business?” The event takes place at the Fluno Center for Executive Education at 601 University Avenue, Madison, WI. The two-hour program begins at 8:00 a.m and includes breakfast.

Registration deadline is Friday, January 13 and can be made at http://www.mitatrade.org or by contacting Suzanne Dove at (608)265-4938 (email: sdove@bus.wisc.edu). Cost is $25 for MITA members and $40 for non-members.

The European Union and the United States have the world’s most extensive trade and financial ties and each depends heavily on the other for stability and economic growth. Since 2009, the European Union has been struggling with a protracted sovereign debt crisis. The most recent developments threaten the viability of the euro and the European Union itself, as well as endangering the global economy.

Two distinguished speakers at the January 17th program will provide an update on the rapid evolution of the European debt crisis in recent weeks. Dr. Mark Copelovitch, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Affairs at University of Wisconsin-Madison, will address the political obstacles that have hindered a viable solution to the crisis. The second speaker, Dr. Scott Anderson, director and senior economist at Wells Fargo, will discuss the implications for world financial markets and U.S. businesses.

This event is Co-sponsored by: Wells Fargo and University of Wisconsin-Madison European Union Center of Excellence (EUCE).
