Local Citizens are 2 weeks away from becoming LLS’s Man & Woman of the Year

Madison, Wis. – May 15, 2012 – The Wisconsin Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launched its annual Madison Man & Woman of the Year competition in March, 2012 to raise money for cancer research and patient services. This annual program is presented by Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin. The 2011 campaign raised nearly $130,000.

Nine Madison-area community leaders are in the home stretch of their 10 week-long competition for the title of LLS Man & Woman of the Year. This honor includes a Grand Finale Gala to honor of the candidates, recognition throughout the region, a full-page advertisement featured in USA Today, and the satisfaction that their commitment to finding cures will help families with blood cancer.

The money raised in the 2012, 10 week long Madison Man & Women of the Year competition will be used by LLS to fund research-seeking cures and better therapies, and to provide information and support for patients and families; allowing them to have the best possible outcomes throughout their cancer experience. Those benefiting from this campaign include this year’s Honored Heroes, Caleb and Rawan. These young adults and their families have survived leukemia and are a source of inspiration to the competitors as well as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society family as a whole.

The Madison area candidates have raised funds over the past 8 weeks and will continue to do so for the rest of the competition by sponsoring fun events such as shopping passes, golf outings, wine and beer tastings, run/walk events, wine & dines, insurance quotes, dine & donate day, home events, and many others. They are also soliciting silent auction event contributions for the gala to raise money for LLS. To attend or sponsor any of these events, go to www.mwoy.org/wi.
