Brookfield, Wis. – October 16, 2012 – Residents turned out for the annual Light The Night® Walk on September 13, 2012 at Veterans Park in Milwaukee, with teams of co-workers, families and friends coming out to help build awareness for the more than 1 million people in North America living with a blood cancer and the many thousands more who have lost the battle.

The Walk, which raises funds for critical research and patient education and support, was a celebration, complete with music, refreshments and family activities. The participants carried lighted balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold to remember those who have died. The Milwaukee Walk raised more than $400,000 with approximately 2,900 registered participants.

“Light The Night® Walk gives hope to patients and their families and lets them know they are not alone in their battle against cancer,” said Ann Marie Frakes, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Chapter of LLS. “It’s a night to pay tribute to lives touched by cancer, honor those we’ve lost and celebrate the lives that have been saved. And the money raised supports critical research and patient education and services.”
