Historic Milwaukee, Inc.: Partners with the Pabst Theater Foundation to create Envisioning the Seen series

MILWAUKEE, WI – Following the success of Remarkable Milwaukee, held on January 30th of this year, Historic Milwaukee, Inc. (HMI) and the Pabst Theater Foundation have partnered to create an entirely unique conversation series titled Envisioning the Seen. Twelve dynamic, inspiring Milwaukeeans are gathered on stage three times a year at the historic Pabst Theater to share their visions for the future of our built environment. The next Envisioning the Seen event will be Monday, June 18th at 6pm at the historic Pabst Theater.

Envisioning the Seen is a cross between the fireside chat, an 18th century salon, and a modern act of civic largesse. The Pabst stage set is a Victorian living room, complete with bartender and barista. The atmosphere is casual and affable; the conversation is creative, unscripted, and truly Milwaukee. At Envisioning the Seen speakers are encouraged to take creative risks, because the conversation is built on a foundation of rigorous and respectful dialogue. The format challenges the participants to introduce new, forward-thinking ideas using comic relief, trust in each other, and an m.o. with no room for ego. The speakers eschew blame, partisanship and denigration to find and emphasize commonalities among their vision for Milwaukee. The audience will leave with new enthusiasm for all that is good in Milwaukee combined with a sense of ownership in Milwaukee’s future. The last portion of the discussion will be dedicated to live tweet questions and audience Q&A moderated by Fox6 News Reporter Ted Perry. After the discussion the audience is invited to participate in a reception with the speakers.

The June 18th participants are Tarik Moody, aka The Architect, DJ and Digital Manager at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee; Juli Kaufmann, Founder, Fix Development; Lincoln Fowler, Founder, Alterra Coffee Roasters; Daniel Holter, producer and composer, Creative Director at The Burst Collective, and Partner at The License Lab; Ian Abston, Founder, Newaukee; Randy Crump, Chairman, African American Chamber of Commerce; CEO at Prism Technical, Inc.; Bruce Murphy, Editor, Urbanmilwaukee.com; Young Kim, Executive Director, Fondy’s Food Center; Melissa Goins, President, Maures Development Group; Ted Perry, Fox6 News Anchor, Reporter; Kalan Haywood, Founder, Vangard Group LLC ; and Laura Bray, Executive Director of Menomonee Valley Partners. Stage Bartender, Mike Brenner, Brenner Brewing and an Alterra Barista.

Since 1974 Historic Milwaukee, Inc. (“HMI”) has been dedicated to increasing awareness of and commitment to Milwaukee’s history, architecture, and the preservation of our built environment through education and advocacy. Milwaukee has the fortune to grow economically and culturally by investing resources in building awareness of our unique history, architecture, and the sustainability of our one-of-a-kind built environment. Communities that showcase their unique sense of place, their heritage, diversity, and distinction attract more people. In 2011 HMI shared Milwaukee stories, directly, to over 30,000 people. People, not buildings, make history. HMI works productively and proactively with city officials, developers, businesses, neighborhood groups, other nonprofits, and diverse individuals to promote historic preservation and heritage conservation as economically, environmentally and culturally sustainable development tools.
