Sometimes the sequel is better than the original. That’s what Historic Milwaukee, Inc. is planning for as they announced today that this year’s Doors Open Milwaukee event will be held the weekend of September 22 & 23.

Last fall over 10,000 people toured the interiors of a hundred downtown buildings in Milwaukee’s first such event that opened up everything from churches to skyscrapers, artisan workplaces to hotels, private clubs to architect studios.

This second edition of Doors Open Milwaukee will include numerous new sites including Tripoli Shrine, Basilica of St. Josaphat, Port of Milwaukee, Federal Courthouse, Clock Shadow Creamery, Urban Ecology Center-Menomonee Valley, Villa Terrace, and Wisconsin Black Historical Museum.

The free event will run from 10am to 5pm each day and include over thirty in-depth walking tours and more than a hundred open buildings. Milwaukee City Hall will once again serve as event central.

The website www.doorsopenmilwaukee.org can give the public an insight into last year’s event. The site will be updated with new 2012 event information in July. A printed event guide will also be available.
