Gov. Walker: Statement on northern Wisconsin flooding
Madison—Governor Walker released the following statement today about the flooding conditions in the northwest corner of the state.
“Our thoughts are with all of the people impacted by the significant flooding in the northwest corner of the state.” Governor Walker said. “Our greatest concern in severe weather situations is that everyone does what they can to keep themselves and their families safe. We are in constant contact with Wisconsin Emergency Management as they work to assess the damages so we can pursue the best options for recovery moving forward.”
Over the past couple of days, parts of Douglas, Bayfield and Ashland Counties received a significant amount of rain and flooding. Some areas received eight inches of rain or more, resulting in road closures, power outages and damages to roads and homes. In Douglas County, at least 75 homes sustained damages ranging from $2,000 to $40,000.
According to Wisconsin Emergency Management, in Clark County, three people died early Thursday morning in car crash that happened on an area of road that appears to have washed out due to heavy rains.
The Wisconsin Disaster Fund is available to assist with protective measures, debris clearance and road repairs. Municipalities and counties may apply for assistance from the DOT Flood Damage Aid Program, to help with road damages and repairs.
