Groundbreaking ceremonies at 10 a.m. on May 10 signify the start of a $7.5 million expansion at Attic Angel Place, 8301 Old Sauk Road, Middleton, to accommodate the changing needs of seniors seeking more independence.
A three –story, 42,000 square foot addition at Attic Angel Place will include an easy-access rehabilitation center on the first level, with 10 assisted living units on both the second and third floors.
The current rehabilitation center will be moved and expanded to provide more convenient and assessable physical, occupational and speech therapy for people who have recuperated in the health center and can return home with outpatient therapy services. It includes drive-up access and eliminates long walks to the rehabilitation facility.
The addition of 20 more assisted living units, to bring the total to 56, is a direct response to the needs of the community, according to Mary Ann Drescher, president of the Attic Angel Association. More people are seeking assisted independence with a home-like environment which includes cost effective care services, as needed, she said.
The Attic Angel Place expansion also includes converting double rooms at the skilled care health center into single rooms, so all 44 units are private. Drescher said single rooms are the overwhelming preference among potential residents and their families when seeking skilled nursing accommodations. .
Community Living Solutions, Appleton, the design builder, is also renovating and expanding existing activity spaces, dining areas and bathing spas at Attic Angel Place, built 12 years ago. Expansion will be completed next March.
Attic Angel Place, a not-for-profit organization, also includes 74 apartments with services and a 20 unit memory care facility. The nearby Attic Angel Prairie Point neighborhood, offering 112 senior living homes, completes the continuum of care from independent residences through skilled nursing health care.
The Attic Angel Association, composed of 580 dedicated volunteers, called Attic Angels, who are leading the ongoing Capital Campaign.
