Friesland, WI — Alsum Farms & Produce will release Alsum Microwave Russets and Alsum Microwave Sweet Potatoes in mid-October 2012. Each package contains a single pre-washed potato that consumers can simply place in the microwave. The Russet potato cooks in just 8 minutes and the sweet potato cooks in just 7 minutes.
“With the start of school, families are busier than ever,” notes Heidi Randall, Marketing Manager at Alsum Farms & Produce. “Our new microwavable singlets give families a healthy option when they’re on the run. They can have a healthy snack or meal in under 10 minutes.”
A medium-size skin-on potato contains 620 g of potassium, has only 110 calories per serving, is free of sodium, gluten, fat and cholesterol, and provides almost half the daily value of vitamin C (45 percent).
Sweet potatoes are another great source of nutrition. A one-cup serving of sweet potatoes provides 65% of the recommended daily amounts of Vitamin C. Sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene, which promotes healthy skin, as well as calcium, folate and potassium. And sweet potatoes have a low glycemic index of 17.
