MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today that the Milwaukee-based retail grocery company, Roundy’s Supermarkets, has joined the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network (“WCAN”), allowing the company’s more than 130 stores throughout 28 Wisconsin counties to receive crime alerts relevant to their business and the communities in which they operate.
“I am thankful another Wisconsin-based business is expressing its support for this incredible crime fighting and crime prevention program, the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network,” Attorney General Van Hollen said. “Roundy’s joins other businesses, individuals and law enforcement officers dedicated to helping keep their communities safe.”
“Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. is excited to become a part of the Wisconsin Crime Alert system. The partnership between law enforcement and private companies, particularly the retail industry, to reduce theft and ensure a safe shopping environment for our customers is vital to all,” Michael Santimauro, Vice President of Loss Prevention/Corporate Security for Roundy’s Supermarkets, said.
In May, Attorney General Van Hollen announced that Kohl’s Department Store, Kwik Trip, Inc., Blain’s Farm and Fleet, Walgreens, Best Buy and Target also purchased subscriptions for their Wisconsin locations. With the WCAN, law enforcement officers issue alerts at no cost to them either by fax, e-mail or text message to individuals and business owners, who may enroll online to receive alerts at a cost of $12 a year. Officers may choose from more than 50 categories, such as pharmacies or convenience stores, when issuing their targeted crime alerts across the county, a multi-county region or statewide.
The WCAN also is hosting free crime prevention webinars for subscribers. The next scheduled webinar is entitled, “Something Smells Phishy: A Guide to Protecting Yourself from Scams.” Oshkosh Police Officer Joseph Nichols will offer ways to protect oneself from falling victim to Internet, telephone, and door-to-door scams.
