MADISON – Wisconsin continues to make progress in diversifying its energy mix, improving environmental performance and increasing energy efficiency according to the 2010 Wisconsin Energy Statistics Book released today by the Wisconsin State Energy Office. Renewable energy experienced a 6.5 percent growth in the most recent reporting period while nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide emissions continue to decrease. These emission reductions are below target levels set by the law due to the installation of new technologies at the state’s utilities.

“The Governor is committed to creating policies that result in cost-effective, reliable, balanced and environmentally-responsible energy – all of which contribute to new jobs and economic growth,” said Chris Schoenherr, Division Administrator for Energy Services. “Sound policy is based on data and the Wisconsin Energy Statistics Book is an excellent resource as we build Wisconsin’s energy future.”

The 2010 book provides comprehensive data for calendar year 2009 and tracks energy supply trends over several years. The publication brings together statistics from a variety of sources, providing a complete review of different forms of energy generation and consumption in Wisconsin since the 1970s by fuel and economic sector.

New this year, are pages on energy statistics specific to energy expenditures, energy intensity, photovoltaics and Focus on Energy results.
