MADISON—Minority-owned businesses seeking sales leads and development assistance should attend the 30th annual Marketplace Conference, to be held Oct. 12 -13 at the Green Bay Radisson Hotel and ConferenceCenter. An evening networking reception Oct. 12 will kick-off the conference followed by an all day program Oct. 13 from 8 am to 4 pm.

“Marketplace 2011 celebrates 30 years of minority business accomplishments in Wisconsin, and provides large and small businesses an opportunity to explore new opportunities in government and corporate markets,” said Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation CEO Paul Jadin.  “This year’s theme, New Markets – New Opportunities, underlines Wisconsin’s Open for Business strategy of supporting private enterprises in their effort to startup, grow, and provide new jobs.”

This year’s keynote speaker is John Sibley Butler, the director of the Institute for Innovation, Creativity, and Capital (IC2) located at the University of Texas. The IC2 Institute has developed practices of Entrepreneurial Wealth Creation that have been tested through several world-recognized programs; the Austin Technology Incubator, the Bureau of Business Research, and the Global Commercialization Group. Butler has served as a consultant for many firms including State Farm Insurance Companies in Bloomington, Illinois, and holds the J. Marion West Chair for Constructive Capitalism at the University of Texas in the McCombs School of Business.

The following awards will be announced at the Marketplace luncheon on Oct. 13:  Outstanding Minority Business (two awards based on business size to honor successful companies); Rising Star (honoring an emerging company that shows innovation and promise); and Good Citizen (honoring a company for community service).

Marketplace 2011 is the premier matchmaking and training event for minority-owned businesses seeking to sell to government and large corporate buyers.  Marketplace attendees will have the opportunity to learn of small business resource agencies and programs, weigh the benefits of local, state and federal certification programs, and meet one-on-one with prospective buyers.
