MADISON – Governor Scott Walker announced today that the Village of Necedah, Juneau County, will receive a $112,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant – Public Facilities for Economic Development (CDBG-PFED) program of the former Department of Commerce. The grant will support an extension of an existing water main to the MVP Business Center (MVP).

“I’m pleased the state was able to partner with the community to assist the local economy,” said Governor Walker. “This grant will have the duel benefit of improving the public works infrastructure in Necedah while allowing for the retention of 53 jobs at six businesses.”

The project consists of the extension of 3,800 lineal feet of water main connecting MVP to the Village water distribution system after high levels of nitrates were discovered in the private well currently being used. The total project cost is $291,000.

The CDBG-PFED helps underwrite the cost of municipal infrastructure necessary for business development that retains or creates employment opportunities. Activities include improvements to public facilities such as water systems, sewerage systems, and streets that are owned by a unit of government, and which will principally benefit businesses; and as a result will induce businesses to create jobs and invest in the community.

The WEDC is Wisconsin’s lead economic development agency. Created in statute as a public authority, the WEDC is responsible for economic development activities previously administered by the Department of Commerce, a state agency eliminated on July 1, 2011.
