MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Joshua Morby, executive director of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance (WBIA) issued this statement following the Senate amendment vote to repeal the ethanol tax credit, known as the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit (VEETC), currently in place for ethanol producers. The amendment passed on a vote of 73 to 27, with Wisconsin Senator Herb Kohl voting in favor of continuing the credit and Senator Ron Johnson supporting its repeal:

“The Senate vote today was not based on the practicalities of producing viable alternatives to petroleum-base fuels. Rather, this was a vote of politics over substantive debate.

“Wisconsin’s ethanol producers are looking forward to working constructively with lawmakers in finding ways to continue the diversification of American energy producing and decreasing our reliance on foreign oil.”

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups, and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
