MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance (WBIA) on Tuesday announced that the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) has released a new Flex-Fuel Station Locator application for iPhones, iPads and the iPod Touch, which is available for free in the Apple App Store.

The application can help users pinpoint any state that offers E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) in Wisconsin and anywhere else in the United States, providing the user with station locations, fuel prices, directions and a phone number to each station.

“E85 is a homegrown, renewable fuel that not only improves our air quality, but creates jobs right here in Wisconsin,” WBIA Executive Director Josh Morby said. “This app allows drivers to better take advantage of the benefits E85 has to offer, and ensure they always know the closest location at which they can purchase the fuel.”

The app was developed by RFA utilizing the E85 station database hosted by the Alternative Fuels & Advanced Vehicles Data Center and the U.S. Department of Energy. This data is continuously updated to help users locate over 2,600 E85 fueling stations across the United States.

In addition to the Flex-Fuel Station Locator for iPhone, the RFA has developed a similar application for the Android series phones and for GPS users.

There are currently 140,000 flex fuel vehicles on Wisconsin roadways capable of using E85, and there are more than 100 locations where consumers can purchase gasoline blended with up to 85 percent ethanol. The WBIA is working with national organizations and the State of Wisconsin to increase the number of flex fuel pumps available to consumers.

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
