Job-creating project will provide 400 jobs in the Wausau area

Milwaukee, Wis. – The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance’s Bio Power Coalition commended the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for approving the We Energies/Domtar Paper Rothschild Biomass Plant.

The project, originally announced in 2009, would produce power for approximately 40,000 homes and provide steam to the Domtar paper mill in Rothschild. The power is created using waste wood, including logging remains and remnant waste wood from sawmills. PSC approval was the final hurdle for the project, since the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and local permits were previously approved.

“We’re excited to see this project move forward, which will provide a local source of power and create 400 new jobs in the Wausau area,” said Joshua Morby, spokesperson for the coalition. “It is vital that our state work to continue promoting the bio power industry, both to grow our local economies and protect our environment by expanding the use of cleaner, renewable power.”

The WBIA’s Bio Power Coalition is a group of individuals and organizations working together to promote the bio power industry in Wisconsin by working to grow the industry in the state, and recognize it as an opportunity to grow our economy and protect our environment.

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups, and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
