Governor Declares April 12 Wisconsin Teach Children to Save Day

MADISON – April 12 was declared Wisconsin Teach Children to Save Day and an official proclamation was presented to the Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA) by Governor Scott Walker during a ceremony in the Governor’s Conference Room at the state Capitol April 6. Receiving the proclamation was WBA Interim President/CEO Rose Oswald Poels, Vice President – Government Relations Mike Semmann and Communications & Financial Literacy Coordinator Jason Busch.

During the month of April last year, 422 Wisconsin bankers reached out to their communities to make 826 presentations about the importance of saving money in conjunction with Teach Children to Save Day.

“Hearing stories about the importance of financial literacy on Teach Children to Save Day helps inspire young people to start a life-long savings habit,” said Oswald Poels. “By teaching personal finance skills at an early age, bankers can help children form a lifetime of good savings habits, learn how to use credit wisely and understand the importance of fiscal responsibility.”

Developed by WBA in 1989, WBA’s Bankers Promoting Financial Literacy program (formerly the Personal Economics Program) encourages Wisconsin bankers to teach children and adults in their communities the money management skills they will need throughout their lives.
