Milwaukee, Wis. – February 17, 2011 – The law firm of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. is pleased to announce that the Wisconsin Law Journal has selected shareholder Jack Laffey as a 2011 recipient of its Leaders in the Law Award.

Laffey is one of 23 legal professionals in Wisconsin who received this award. The award recognizes lawyers and judges who have given their time and talent to improve the practice of law, the justice system and the communities in which they live. Laffey was recognized for his leadership and team approach while defending asbestos cases. In particular, he was honored for employing the long-term strategy that focuses on both client and case-specific advocacy while educating judges to apply common sense and extrapolate relevant legal principles to multi-defendant, multi-product toxic tort litigation. He was honored at a reception on February 16 at the Milwaukee Hilton City Center for his outstanding record for defending asbestos cases in Wisconsin, and his strong leadership and mentoring abilities.

A shareholder in WHD’s Milwaukee office, Laffey focuses his practice in the areas of product liability, transportation litigation, toxic tort, catastrophic injury defense/consulting and insurance coverage litigation. He has represented clients in civil litigation in 25 different states in a wide variety of contexts, including product liability, professional negligence, trucking, construction litigation, toxic tort and insurance coverage matters.

Laffey received his B.S., with distinction, from San Jose State University and his J.D. from The Ohio State University. Laffey has been recognized for his leadership in the Defense Research Institute (DRI). He has been a member of DRI’s Law Institute since 2006 and has chaired its Trucking Law Committee. He also has been involved in DRI’s Product Liability, Professional Liability, and Toxic Torts committees. Laffey is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, and a member of various other professional organizations including International Association of Defense Counsel, Transportation Lawyers Association, Trucking Industry Defense Association, and the American Bar Association’s Tort and Insurance Practice, Litigation, and Transportation Law sections.
