Milwaukee – July 19, 2011 – Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. (WHD) is pleased to announce that it has been named Mergers & Acquisitions Law Firm of the Year (USA) and Corporate Governance Law Firm of the Year (USA) for 2011 by Finance Monthly Magazine. The M&A Law Firm of the Year Award was received as a result of the nomination of WHD attorney Rich Silverthorn in recognition of his national M&A experience, which also earned him the individual 2011 M&A award. The Corporate Governance Law Firm of the Year Award was received in recognition of the corporate governance work performed by attorney Sverre Roang.

Said Finance Monthly Magazine in announcing the awards: “The role of corporate lawyers cannot be underestimated; they have been at the very heart of the global recovery and their day to day involvement is vital to ensure stability, consolidation and growth… In difficult trading conditions such as these the successful firms innovate and stay fleet of foot to meet the changing business climate head on. The 2011 Finance Monthly Law Awards recognize all those firms that have dedicated their resources to innovation, built on their depth of expertise, and performed outstandingly over the year.”

“We are honored to receive these awards from Finance Monthly Magazine,” said Paul Eberle, WHD’s Chief Executive. “Coming off the heels of our firm being named to the National Law Journal’s Midsize Hot List for our creative and innovative strategies, and Chambers USA’s praise of our firm as ‘a sophisticated practice with experts in every area,’ ‘highly esteemed for M&A matters,’ and possessing ‘a deep and broad base of sector-specific knowledge,’ this is a testament to the skills and client service of our corporate attorneys.”

Richard W. Silverthorn is a shareholder in the Milwaukee office, where he is a member of the firm’s Corporate Practice Group. Silverthorn offers clients the benefit of his broad-based experience in mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, and general corporate and business matters. He has significant experience representing clients in the energy, utility, chemical, electronics, food, automotive, and transportation industries. Silverthorn works closely with businesses owners and their management teams, often serving as outside general counsel, to help them achieve their short- and long-term strategic objectives. Silverthorn was awarded the Finance Monthly Magazine 2011 M&A (USA) award and was also selected as one of the pre-eminent Corporate/Mergers and Acquisitions lawyers in the 2008–2011 Chambers USA editions of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Chambers USA has recognized Silverthorn for being the “first port of call” for companies in the chemical and utility industries and for bringing an “organized, determined and meticulous” approach to M&A transactions. According to Chambers, clients commented that he “has an impressive command of corporate legal issues and is a master of negotiation strategy” and praised Silverthorn for being “perceptive and accurate” and for his “pleasant demeanor which is well suited to conducting complex and long-winded contract negotiations.”

Sverre David Roang is a shareholder in the Madison office, where he serves as co-leader of the firm’s Corporate Practice Group. Roang works with a variety of businesses to lead them through all stages of their development, and has strong experience in mergers, acquisitions, corporate governance and various other transactions. He strives to be a trusted counselor to businesses and the families who own them, helping them find practical solutions to complex issues. Roang also works diligently to understand the broader industry in which his clients operate, allowing him to provide pointed and impactful legal counsel. He has been particularly successful doing so for significant agribusiness companies throughout the United States and around the world, helping many navigate complex M&A transactions. Chambers USA has recognized Roang for his “impeccable legal knowledge,” “ability to keep his cool but get tough when needs be,” and the “high level of client service” he offers in M&A transactions. According to Chambers, “he is as much a business partner as he is a lawyer” and he impresses with his “forward-thinking counseling and ability to get results.”
