UW-Whitewater: Record enrollment at UW-Whitewater

For the second consecutive year, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater enrolled a record number of students. According to the Registrar’s Office, 11,615 students enrolled in courses this fall. In fall 2010, a record 11,557 enrolled. In fall 2006, enrollment was 10,502.

“Obviously we are pleased that increasing numbers of students see the value in a UW-Whitewater education,” Chancellor Richard Telfer said. “The record enrollments of the past couple of academic years do not alter our focus on providing exceptional educational experiences both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities.”

UW-Whitewater continues to offer innovative programs and fields of study. New offerings for the 2011-12 academic year include a minor in the business of water. Students in that program study issues of water availability, quality and cost. The new Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Center, housed in Upham Hall, provides students the opportunity to work on mapping projects and analyses for regional clients. Launch Pad, a partnership with the Innovation Center at Whitewater University Technology Park, provides student entrepreneurs with resources to pursue their ideas.

Students involved in extracurricular activities continue to excel as well. Three athletic teams – football, wheelchair basketball and rugby – won national championships last year. Student organizations, including the American Marketing Association and Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization, took first-place honors at their national conferences.
