UW-Stevens Point: Two professors exhibit artworks

Two Art & Design Department faculty members at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will be among the artists featured at various shows in Wisconsin, Connecticut, New York, Arizona, Indiana and Maryland.

Keven Brunett and Kristin Thielking, a married couple who teach three-dimensional art at UW-Stevens Point, are being featured in the following exhibits:

· ArtScape, Milwaukee’s outdoor sculpture walk in the Third Ward District, will include Brunett and Thielking’s sculpture, “Capricious Tongues.” It runs through November 15 and is online at www.historicthirdward.org/events/artscape.php.

· Craft USA 2011, a show at the Silvermine Art Center in New Canaan, Conn., will feature their work Nov. 13–Dec. 23. The show was juried by Holly Hotchner, director of the Museum of Art and Design in New York City. (www.silvermineart.org/exhibit/craft-usa)

· Three of Brunett and Thielking’s sculptures will be installed for one year at the Jewish Community Center’s Outdoor Sculpture Park in Tucson, Ariz. It opens Nov. 13. (www.tucsonjcc.org/arts/sculpture-garden)

· The University of Indianapolis will permanently install a piece as part of their annual sculpture walk. A free outdoor exhibition, the walk includes juried work by artists from around the country. Their work received a Fifth Third Bank Campus Sculpture Walk Purchase Award and will become a permanent piece on their campus.

· “Toys: re-invent, re-imagine, re-discover” at AnnMarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Maryland, will be on exhibit through Jan. 8, 2012. Both are featured in the show that includes works that are toys or are created from or inspired by toys. (www.annmariegarden.org/annmarie2/node/634)

Thielking has taught sculpture classes at UW-Stevens Point since 2001. She holds degrees from Brown University and UW-Madison. Brunett, who joined the art faculty in 2005, teaches 2D and 3D design foundation courses as well as upper level courses in the sculpture area. His degrees are from UW-Madison.

Both are very involved in the development and expansion of UW-Stevens Point’s degree programs in sculpture, glass and public art. The husband and wife team works collaboratively in a variety of materials from the ephemeral to cast iron on many permanent indoor and outdoor sculptural installations including Percent for Art commissions. They have had works exhibited as well as commissioned both regionally and nationally and attended numerous residencies including the Kohler Arts/Industry program in foundry.
