UW-Stevens Point: Student honored by Madison PRSA

A University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point communications student has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Madison area professional chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Matt Vollmer of Chilton, a senior with a double major in communications/public relations and business administration/entrepreneurship, was chosen from a pool of students from across the state for this award, the only scholarship given by the Madison PRSA chapter. The fourth UW-Stevens Point communication major to win this prestigious award in the last seven years, he will be recognized this fall at the PRSA Awards Banquet in Madison.

This fall he will begin a second term as president of UW-Stevens Point’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. He has been involved in several of the chapter’s projects and has attended national conventions. This summer he is serving a communication externship in London, England, at Resonate PR, a division of the Bell Pottinger Group, the largest public relations firm in the United Kingdom.

He has also served internships for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and at UW-Stevens Point in the office of University Relations and Communications, the College of Fine Arts and Communication dean’s office and the Division of Communication.

Vollmer is also active with Theta Xi Fraternity, as a commencement volunteer and student ambassador. He has been recognized with several academic and leadership awards. His career plans include running his own public relations firm.
