UW-Stevens Point Student Government Association: State budget lapse effect on UWSP

We, the 9,500 students at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, are concerned with the budget lapse regarding the UW System. With the disproportionate distribution of cuts to UW System, this lapse will greatly affect the quality of the education students will receive at UW-Stevens Point.

The UW System is an indispensable source of education for not only Wisconsin students, but students around the world. The proposed cuts will have a direct and negative impact on the education offered to the students, including a huge reduction in educational opportunities vital to producing a well-rounded student. The UW System prides itself on offering affordable, yet excellent education to its students. It is important to preserve this institution for future students by retracting the unbalanced budget lapse that will adversely affect the UW System.

The students at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point urge members of the Joint Committee on Finance, in the strongest of terms, to reconsider the budget lapse affecting the UW System and adjust it more evenly across state agencies. The continued success of the students of the University of Wisconsin System is at stake.
