UW-Stevens Point: College of Professional Studies announces administrative appointments

The reappointment of four associate deans and department heads within the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point College of Professional Studies has been announced by Dean Marty Loy.

Professor Gary Cumley was reappointed as the associate dean and head of the School of Communicative Disorders. He currently serves as a consulting editor for the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Journal and serves on the CSEA 5 School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Institute planning committee. He has developed a comprehensive Augmentative and Alternative Communication program, which provides services for children and adults with complex communication needs. The School of Communicative Disorders provides students with learning opportunities to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to competently assess and treat individuals with speech, language, hearing and/or swallowing disorders in a variety of work settings.

Professor Susan Raab was reappointed as the associate dean and head of the School of Health Care Professions. Raab has both clinical and university teaching experience and has won the UWSP Excellence in Teaching Award. She has held numerous offices in professional organizations at the local, state and national level. Her special interests include innovative clinical experiences, hybrid and online course development and improving the advising process. The School of Health Care Professions prepares health-care professionals for 21st century health care by exploring and deepening interdisciplinary partnerships, while expanding traditional and nontraditional learning opportunities through community outreach, articulation, service and travel.

Associate Professor Pat Shaw was reappointed as the associate dean and head of the School of Education. Prior to assuming this position, she taught undergraduate educational psychology, the seminar for student teachers and was a supervisor of student teachers. Shaw also serves as the counselor for the UWSP chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society. The School of Education develops highly qualified professional educators who honor the uniqueness of all learners and actively demonstrate the knowledge, skills and dispositions of effective teachers positively impacting our diverse world.

Professor Rory Suomi was reappointed as the associate dean and head of the School of Health and Exercise Science. Suomi also serves as the adviser to the physical education major and is the director of the Special Needs Aquatic Program. In addition to working for the university, Suomi is on staff as a physical therapist assistant for Greenfield Rehabilitation Associates. The School of Health and Exercise Science offers programs designed to teach individuals how to improve the quality of their own and others health, and offers experiences designed to promote quality health habits and knowledge.
