UW-Stevens Point: Andersen named commissioner for Wisconsin early childhood education professionals

An early childhood educator at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has been named one of six Registry Commissioners for the state of Wisconsin.

Marge Andersen, a native of Stevens Point and an alumna of UWSP with a degree in elementary education, has taught in the Helen R. Godfrey University Child Learning and Care Center for the past 28 years. She is a certified licensed 4K teacher and has had her administrative credentials since 2005. By spring she plans to have her leadership credentials and will be part of the very first class to gain this early childhood credential.

The registry is Wisconsin’s early childhood education recognition system for professional development and continuing education and experience. Andersen and her fellow commissioners objectively evaluate professional credentials that meet the needs of early childhood care and education practitioners. Credentials are awarded in administration, preschool, inclusion and infant/toddler.

Early childhood professionals join the registry to certify continuing education and professional development throughout their careers. Professionals must obtain 25 hours of continuing education each year.

Andersen resides in Stevens Point with her husband, Kurt. Both her husband and their daughter, Evelyn, received degrees from UWSP.
