MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Two days after a fire damaged an automobile-recycling yard operated by United Milwaukee Scrap, the company announced it is open for business.

“It’s important for our customers to know that we’re still up and running,” said company spokesperson Joshua Morby. “We’ve even made arrangements to continue operating our automobile recycling operation.”

The fire damaged the roof of a facility located on the 3300 block of West Fond du Lac Avenue Monday morning. Company officials are working to determine what part of the 10,000-square-foot building, if any, can be reused.

In the interim, a temporary office structure is now in place so operations can continue. The workforce at United Milwaukee Scrap remains strong, with no layoffs planned as a result of the fire.

United Milwaukee Scrap is a processor and seller of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals; operates six recycling plants throughout the city of Milwaukee; and employs nearly 150 people.

The scrap UMS receives is prepared to customer specifications utilizing a broad range of processing equipment, and is sold and shipped to customers around the world.
