Victor Mooney packed a variety food during his expected eight month transatlantic row from Cape Verde to New York; however, it was his ginseng that kept his body alert for fourteen days on a life raft after his rowboat sunk. He was rescued by an ocean freighter on March 10 and brought to Brasil.

At the invitation of the World Maritime Rescue Congress 2011, Mooney will be sharing his first public testimony of his rescue at their annual meeting in Shanghai, China this August. “My only source of eating was ginseng and it proved to be a life-saver”, said Mooney at his home. Mooney also plans to make appearances in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong while in China.

Marathon based Schumacher Ginseng LLC supplied the rower with an array of ginseng products for his transatlantic journey. “On land, my next mission is to encourage healthy living and Wisconsin Ginseng is definitely a major part of that”, Mooney added.
