Rep. Roys: Use special “jobs” session to force extreme social agenda

Limiting Access to Health Care for Women Instead of Creating Jobs

Madison – Assembly Joint Resolution 34, a symbolic resolution to honor so-called crisis pregnancy centers, was added to the Tuesday’s Special Session agenda. Crisis Pregnancy Centers are anti-abortion front groups that often disguise themselves as health care organizations, despite having no health care professionals on staff, to mislead and coerce women not to have abortions. They are not required to provide medically accurate information to the public.

Additionally, there are several other anti-choice or anti-birth control proposals making their way through the legislative process that negatively impact access to health care and information for women and families.

“Republicans are using their ironically named Special ‘Jobs’ Session to instead push an extreme, right-wing social agenda that will cost taxpayers millions,” said Rep. Roys (D-Madison). “They’re desperate to pander to their right-wing base because they have done nothing to create jobs, and in fact, are creating a worse economic situation for thousands of Wisconsin families. Unfortunately, their attacks on health care are the worst kind of ignorance-based policy – their choices will result in thousands of families losing access to needed health care, millions of taxpayer dollars spent on preventable teen births, and more cost-shifting to privately insured patients.

Anti-choice, anti-health care proposals:

· SB 237 – repeals the Healthy Youth Act

· SB 92 – bans insurance coverage of abortion

· AJR 34 – crisis pregnancy center resolution

· LRB 2284 – bans Well Woman Funds for non-profit health care providers

· LRB 2859 – constitutional amendment that outlaws abortion, IVF and birth control
