[WI] Members Of Nationwide PCPAN Coalition Will Join Reps. Courtney & Marino To Ask Congress & FTC To Support Patients Over Profits

[WI] – Next week, local consumers, business owners and community-based pharmacists with the Preserve Community Pharmacy Access NOW! (PCPAN) coalition will go to Washington, D.C. to urge Congress and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to support patient care and oppose the planned merger between Express Scripts Inc. and Medco Health Solutions Inc. While in town, the group will participate in a press conference outside of the Capitol and attend meetings with [WI] policymakers. Congressman Joe Courtney (D-CT), Congressman Thomas Marino (R-PA) and PCPAN Chair, Congresswoman Eva M. Clayton (Ret.), will also participate.

Last July, Express Scripts Inc. and Medco Health Solutions Inc., two pharmacy benefit management (PBM) companies, announced a merger agreement that could go into effect as soon as early 2012. The merger, that would create a consolidated PBM with excessive control over the health care of tens of millions of Americans, is currently under review by Congress and the FTC. Approving the merger would lead to higher prices for lesser quality health care for Americans. The PCPAN coalition hopes to educate consumers, policymakers and others on the negative impact of approving the merger, in an effort to stop it from moving forward.

Members of the WI delegation include:

* Joe Wineke, former Chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin and former State Senator

* Tom Engels, VP, Public Affairs of the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin

* Andrew Feld, local community Pharmacist

Delegation members are available to discuss their trip to D.C.
