Sue Dragisic and Martin Kaiser to be honored as Headliners
MILWAUKEE, WI—The Milwaukee Press Club today announced that news anchor, producer and author Bill Kurtis will be the Club’s 2011 Sacred Cat Award honoree. The award, which has been given annually since 1973, recognizes excellence in journalism at the national level. Kurtis will accept the award at the Club’s annual Gridiron Dinner, May 7th at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee. The event also will honor 2011 Headliners Sue Dragisic, former president and CEO of the United Way of Greater Milwaukee, and Martin Kaiser, Vice President and Editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, as well as the winners of the 2010 Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism competition. John McGivern will emcee.
Sacred Cat award winner. Bill Kurtis, is a documentary host and producer, network and major market news anchor, multimedia production company president, author, and grass-fed cattle rancher. Kurtis served as an anchor of CBS Morning News as well as WBBM-TV in Chicago. He produced the Peabody Award winning series The New Explorers, which aired on PBS, among other documentary series. He is the author of The Death Penalty on Trial: Crisis in American Justice.
“We are excited to have Bill Kurtis as this year’s Sacred Cat honoree,” said Kathy Mykleby, Milwaukee Press Club president. “I’ve known Bill for years. His varied accomplishments over his years working in broadcast journalism will be of interest to our members.”
The Headliner Awards are bestowed annually to people who are in the news and are making a positive difference in Wisconsin.
Headliners for the 2011 Gridiron will be former President and CEO of the United Way of Greater Milwaukee, Sue Dragisic, and Editor and Senior Vice President of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Martin Kaiser.
“We are excited to recognize these two talented leaders who have both demonstrated remarkable dedication and service to the Milwaukee community,” said Mykleby. “We look forward to recognizing their achievements at the Gridiron.”
