Mertz Associates: Takes new shape

Transition of transaction business to colleagues allows for shift toward consulting services

Milwaukee – April 27, 2011 – Local M&A firm Mertz Associates announced today an evolution in its business model and operating structure as part of a planned shift in business strategy and ownership.

As part of this evolution, current Mertz managing director Doug Marconnet and principal Robert Jansen will assume ownership of the firm’s full-service transaction business. Marconnet and Jansen will build upon the Mertz tradition of high-quality execution and superior results, leveraging their experience to continue serving middle-market companies in M&A transactions.

This change will allow managing director Linda Mertz to evolve Mertz Associates toward a primarily consultative-based firm, with involvement in select transactions. The evolution will meet an emerging demand in the marketplace for strategic counsel that enables business leaders to better understand M&A’s role in charting a direction for their company and determining a move-forward strategy.

“As the M&A market continues to expand, there is an opportunity to counsel companies looking at their growth or exit strategies,” says Linda Mertz. “For some companies, they need help charting a direction prior to approaching an M&A firm. In other cases – where the buyer and seller are already in conversations – the knowledge and objectivity I can bring to the table will enable them to move forward in a mutually beneficial way. I am enthusiastic and passionate about focusing my efforts on providing this counsel.”

Mertz, Marconnet and Jansen are collaborating to facilitate a seamless transition. Mertz Associates will continue as the consulting firm, while Marconnet and Jansen will operate the full-service M&A transaction business under a new company name to be announced June 1.

“The demand for full-service M&A transaction services will continue to grow, and I’m especially pleased that my longtime colleagues will continue building upon Mertz’s 30-year tradition of producing successful outcomes. Transitioning the business is a vision that Doug and I have worked together to shape over the past few years,” Mertz said.

Since its foundation in the 1970s, Mertz Associates has worked exclusively on mergers and acquisitions, successfully completing several hundred transactions for middle-market companies. With nearly 30 years of combined experience at Mertz Associates, Marconnet and Jansen have collectively advised clients in completing more than 100 successful transactions.

According to Marconnet, “I am honored to have played a role in shaping the Mertz tradition over the past two decades and am excited about partnering with Rob Jansen to continue building on this legacy of success. The new company will conduct strategic acquisition searches, divest non-core divisions or product lines and sell privately held businesses for clients in the middle market.
