Madison Area Technical College students can now get basic health services at the Truax campus—most free of charge.

The College has partnered with Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin to provide care to students for such things as allergies and colds, skin conditions and minor injuries.

“Many of our students have limited or no health insurance,” says Madison College President Bettsey Barhorst. “Studies have shown that healthy students are more likely to get good grades, stay in school, complete their degrees and be more successful in life.”

A GHC nurse practitioner or a physician’s assistant will be available to Madison College students Monday through Friday—with extended hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

“The collaboration between Madison College and GHC-SCW is proof that community partners are most effective when we support each other’s values,” says Kassie Remo, GHC-SCW Clinic Operations Director. “We are especially excited to bring our primary care expertise to the students of Madison College so that they may receive basic health care services in a convenient campus location.”

Madison College is having a health services clinic open house from 1 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 13. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m.
