MILWAUKEE – For the eighth consecutive year Kahler Slater, a Milwaukee-based, award-winning architecture and experience design firm, has been named one of the best small companies to work for in the nation. The company is ranked number 20 among small companies on the “Great Place to Work® Rankings: 2011 Best Small & Medium Workplaces Presented by Entrepreneur®” list.

This annual list recognizes companies that have exceptional workplace cultures. In its eighth year, the competition is divided into two categories – Small (50-250 employees) and Medium (251-999 employees) workplaces. Kahler Slater is one of only five small and medium-sized companies to have received the honor each year.

Kahler Slater was selected among hundreds of companies vying for a place on the list. Applicant companies opt to participate in the selection process, which includes an employee survey and an in-depth questionnaire about the company’s programs and practices. Great Place to Work® then evaluates each application based on five dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

“We are honored to again be named a Great Place to Work,” said George Meyer, co-Chief Executive Officer of Kahler Slater. “It tells us that we continue to be a workplace in which our employees feel trusted, that fosters teamwork, and that inspires our people to do great creative work.”

Co-CEO Jim Rasche added, “We have intentionally created and nurtured a culture that thrives on the professional passions of every team member. Employees who are passionate about what they do increase their value to the team and provide quality work to our clients. Ultimately, it is good business for Kahler Slater.”

Meyer continued, “We also have fun. Whether it’s a spontaneous brainstorming session, taking a day as a group to support the United Way’s Days of Caring, or just a weekly team meeting, there is someone who makes sure the event is fun, memorable and impactful.”

“The companies featured on this year’s list are truly extraordinary in their practices and achievements,” said Susan Lucas-Conwell, CEO of Great Place to Work. “Their leaders recognize the value of creating great workplaces and the competitive edge it provides them.”

That competitive edge, Lucas-Conwell continued, often includes better financial performance, less employee turnover, higher levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty, more innovative and creative thinking, higher productivity and enhanced public perception.
