(August 30, 2011): J. F. Ahern Co. recently announced plans to construct a new Milwaukee office on a five-acre parcel at the corner of West Canal Street and West Roundhouse in the Menomonee Valley Business Park. Having outgrown its current Menomonee Falls location, Ahern intends to build a 67,000 square-foot facility to better support its increasing southeast Wisconsin operations. This new space will house the Company’s 65 office employees and support its 125 construction and service technicians in the southeast region. It also enables relocation of its fire extinguisher recharge facilities, offers the community a variety of new job opportunities, and allows for future expansion.

Construction documents will be finalized this Fall, with groundbreaking scheduled for Spring 2012. Ahern will design and install efficient, environmental mechanical systems in its efforts to achieve LEED Gold certification, similar to those used in its corporate headquarters. Ahern intends to utilize a new market tax credit package, which its management team largely attributes to its decision to build.

“We are excited about the opportunities this new facility creates, and the improved client service that will result,” said Executive Vice President Bob Fischer. “Ahern invests heavily in training our project and service technicians. We will create even greater educational opportunities for employees and clients by investing in a site that improves internal operations. A more central location will also result in more efficient response times throughout greater Milwaukee.”

The Menomonee Valley Business Park is located immediately east of the Miller Park parking lots, and has been a highly successful redevelopment project for the City of Milwaukee. Other companies in the Business Park include Palermo’s, Taylor Dynamometer, Badger Railing, Calefi, Charter Wire, and Derse. Suzy’s Cheesecakes and Ingeteam are also in the process of establishing their operations in the development. Of the 60 acres in the original Business Park, only eight remain available.

“I am very pleased that Ahern, a company with such a strong reputation, has chosen to grow in Milwaukee’s Menomonee Valley,” Mayor Tom Barrett said. “This new location is centrally located, adjacent to neighborhoods that are home to hardworking people, and alongside other companies that are top names in their respective fields. It’s a great place to do business.”

The project requires the approval of the board of the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Common Council.
