BROOKFIELD, WI, (June 13, 2011) – As one door closes, another one opens for the CEO, faculty and key staff of Lakeside School of Massage, who will be joining Herzing University – Brookfield in June as Herzing launches its new Therapeutic Massage program in July, while Lakeside transitions toward closing its doors in September. Lakeside will continue to serve current students and alumni at its facilities until the September closure.

The new Herzing University – Brookfield Therapeutic Massage program will offer an associate degree in Therapeutic Massage and a professional Therapeutic Massage diploma. Carole Ostendorf, Ph.D., chief executive officer of Lakeside School of Massage will become the new Therapeutic Massage program director for Herzing University – Brookfield. Herzing University also offers an award-winning massage therapy program at is Omaha, Nebraska campus.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Carole Ostendorf, her faculty and staff to Herzing University – Brookfield, where they can continue to provide students with a high quality education in therapeutic massage,” said Jody Wasmer, campus president, Herzing University – Brookfield. “Our new massage therapy programs are well-aligned with Lakeside’s curriculum, but students will also benefit from the addition of some general education courses to the associate degree program and the Herzing University accreditation.” (Accredited: Higher Learning Commission, member: North Central Association – http://www.ncahlc.org or (800) 621-7440)

The 23 current students of Lakeside School of Massage will graduate as part of the Lakeside program. New students will complete their programs as graduates of Herzing University. Students also will be able to transfer credits from Lakeside to Herzing, which they can use as part of other Herzing University degree programs if they choose to pursue additional education beyond the massage therapy program.

“After 25 years, the decision to close Lakeside School of Massage was really difficult, but I’m excited to begin the next phase of my career with Herzing University, where we can continue our work in an organization that offers such a caring culture and is so well aligned with our education standards,” said Ostendorf. “I’m particularly happy that many of my faculty and staff will be joining me at Herzing,” she added.

Massage Therapists are trained in the application of soft-tissue manipulation in the treatment of client health, including pain management, injury recovery, stress reduction and overall health promotion. The Associate of Science in Therapeutic Massage is a 20-month full-time program and the Diploma in Therapeutic Massage program can be completed in as little as 12 months.

Expanding its array of educational opportunities in the healthcare fields, Herzing University – Brookfield also just announced the start of another new degree program: the Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technician.

Applications are already being accepted for the Herzing University – Brookfield Therapeutic Massage program beginning in July 2011.
