Gov. Walker: Discusses education and economic competitiveness at NBC’s 2011 “Education Nation” summit

MADISON —NBC News’ Brian Williams will host governors from states across the country, including Wisconsin, for a special “Education Nation” panel session focused on education and economic competitiveness, entitled The State of Education: The Governor’s Perspective.

“I’m excited to talk with Governors and other leaders about the educational challenges facing our country,” said Governor Walker. “I believe we have a great story to tell about our reforms and our bipartisan collaborations to further improve our schools. I also look forward to learning from the other Governors and hearing about what’s working in their states. Improving education is a key to ensuring we have a talented workforce that will grow and attract jobs.”

Scheduled for Monday, September 26th, the discussion will cover a myriad of major issues facing state leadership such as budget cuts, the Common Core and college readiness, No Child Left Behind, the role of teacher’s unions, early childhood education, teacher effectiveness, college affordability and completion, charter schools, online learning, and Race to the Top.
