MADISON – Governor Scott Walker announced today that a Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grant has been awarded to Marinette County. The $55,000 award provides the state’s contribution toward helping ISP Minerals, Incorporated expand its existing facility in the town of Pembine and create new jobs in the community.

“Investing in quality transportation is vital for businesses that are looking to expand in Wisconsin,” Governor Walker said. “By providing these funds, we are keeping quality jobs in Wisconsin while improving road access to ISP’s facility and meeting my pledge to keep Wisconsin open for business.”

The $55,000 grant covers half of the cost of designing and reconstructing Marinette County R to improve access to ISP’s facilities. Marinette County will provide an additional $55,000 to cover the required matching costs for the project. The transportation improvement project has a total cost of $110,000.

“This project retains 11 jobs and indirectly creates 10 jobs, resulting in one million dollars in annual wages right here in Wisconsin,” Governor Walker noted.

ISP Minerals, Incorporated manufactures and supplies ceramic-coated, colored granules used in roofing shingles to the roofing industry throughout the United States. The road improvement is essential to the long-term viability of business operations with the opening of a second mine in the town of Pembine that is expected to be in operation for 20 to 25 years.

Since it was created in 1987, the TEA grant program has invested nearly $82.9 million in 306 projects benefiting 332 businesses and creating 71,479 jobs in Wisconsin.
