MADISON, Wis. (Oct. 11, 2011) — The Wisconsin Arts Board and the Department of Tourism are teaming up to highlight and celebrate the arts in Wisconsin. October is National Arts and Humanities month and the Wisconsin Arts Board and the Department of Tourism are working harder than ever, together, to develop and promote creative Wisconsin enterprises.

“The Arts Board’s work is focused on helping to develop Wisconsin’s arts at the local, regional and statewide level,” said George Tzougros, executive director of the Wisconsin Arts Board. “Arts and Cultural Tourism have been a key segment of Wisconsin’s tourism industry for years, and the Department has done a great job of marketing the state’s wide spectrum of cultural work.”

On July 1, the Wisconsin Arts Board became a Division of the Department of Tourism, moving into the Tourism offices later that month. The Arts Board retains its own identity and governing board but in the new structure it is able to work more closely with the Department of Tourism staff and find synergies with the promotional programs offered by Tourism.

“Because October is National Arts and Humanities month, now is an excellent time to officially welcome the Wisconsin Arts Board to the Tourism team,” said Stephanie Klett, Wisconsin Department of Tourism secretary. “Tourism and the Arts Board have already found points of synergy for our work in support of the arts in Wisconsin. The Department of Tourism looks forward to further promoting the arts and culture, which in turn enhances the travel experience we offer and grows the economy.”

Arts Board staff and board members begin their 2011 “It’s Time to Talk” tour later this month, gathering direct input on where to prioritize efforts and resources over the next two years. Abbie Hill, tourism grant coordinator, will also be at these sessions to educate organizations about the funding and promotional opportunities available through the Department of Tourism. The Wisconsin Arts Board is the state agency that nurtures creativity, cultivates expression, promotes the arts, supports the arts in education, stimulates community and economic development and serves as a resource for people of every culture and heritage.
