Today, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue has reversed automatic payment withdrawals for 5,154 taxpayers with installment agreements who had a duplicate payment withdrawn from their account in error. The funds that were withdrawn today will be returned to the affected accounts tomorrow, June 8th,. The department has asked the financial institutions involved to waive any overdraft fees that may have resulted from this transaction.
Last night, the department sent a batch of 6,400 automatic monthly withdrawal transactions to financial institutions, and 5,154 of these automatic withdrawals were duplicate payments from May 15, 2011. The batch code error was identified immediately, but the payments had already been processed.
The department is sending a letter to the affected customers.
