MADISON – There’s a new way to interact with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). Facebook and Twitter. Go to http://www.twitter.com/widatcp or http://www.facebook.com/widatcp for the latest announcements and need-to-know information.

“DATCP’s diverse programs impact each of us daily from consumer protection to food safety to animal health,” said Jim Dick, the DATCP Communications Director. “Facebook and Twitter will allow us to interact with the public and give Wisconsinites a new way to communicate directly with us.”

Regular updates will be posted on each of these social media sites on current topics. For example, during the holiday season, find consumer tips to avoid cybercrime when shopping online through social media. Discover items that are Something Special from Wisconsin™ for holiday decorating, entertaining, or gift giving. Read advice from a DATCP veterinarian if you are thinking about giving the gift of a pet this season.

If consumers and the media need to know something urgently, DATCP will post it on Facebook and Twitter.

“By joining social media, producers and consumers will have easier access to valuable information through websites they regularly visit like Facebook and Twitter,” added Dick. “Connecting with DATCP is a great way to learn about the programs and services we provide people around the state every day”.
